The SNA board poses for a #GivingTuesday ‘unselfie’!

Between August 1, 2013, and July 31, 2014, the dollars raised for the School Nutrition Foundation’s Annual Fund tripled the sum raised in the prior twelve months; with over $22,000 raised, the School Nutrition Association has decided to extend the 2014 Annual Fund drive through the end of this year—December 31, 2014.

As part of the extended deadline, one of the highlight events is participation in #GivingTuesday—a worldwide campaign to celebrate generosity and giving back to the communities and causes that are important to us. The #GivingTuesday website puts it this way:

It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company, or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.

More on #GivingTuesday shortly, but first let’s talk about SNF’s Annual Fund, and how you can help.

About the Annual Fund

Support for the Annual Fund is support for the Foundation. Founded in 1964, SNF was created to provide financial support to offer education, research, and scholarship to SNA members. A donation to the Annual Fund is an investment in your colleagues, and in the future of your profession; Foundation funds help educate and empower the men and women who feed America’s schoolchildren every day.

In honor of SNF’s 50th Anniversary, consider a special Anniversary Gift in the amount of $50, $500, or $5000. Giving Levels are as follows:

  • Booster ($10-$49)
  • Special Anniversary Gift ($50)
  • Supporter ($51-$99)
  • Sponsor ($100-$499; $501-$999)
  • Special Anniversary Gift ($500)
  • Champion ($1000-$4999)
  • Special Anniversary Gift ($5000)
  • Benefactor ($5001-$9999)
  • Leader ($10,000+)

About #GivingTuesday

Celebrated annually on December 2, #GivingTuesday is a response to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday movements. This global effort seeks to shift public attention and awareness to the power of giving; to focus on sharing rather than consumer-driven holiday shopping.

We have chosen to participate in #GivingTuesday to help provide our school nutrition colleagues the resources they need to continue their education and pursue professional advancement. When you participate in #GivingTuesday with a donation to the School Nutrition Foundation’s Annual Fund, you provide the funds needed for education, research, and scholarships for SNA members. The Foundation’s goal is to fund efforts that benefit the members of SNA—members just like you.

But it’s not just about making a donation! #GivingTuesday is an active, ongoing awareness campaign for the power of generosity. Take an “unselfie”—a photo of yourself with the #GivingTuesday hashtag and a shout-out for SNF—and share it with us on Facebook and Twitter. Another way to spread awareness is to email some of the SNA members in your circle of contacts with a link to the #GivingTuesday page and information about the SNF Annual Fund drive. And if you have an extra minute, send us an email at snf@schoolnutrition.org to share why it’s important for you to support SNF’s education, research, and scholarship programs.

Visit the SNA website for more information on the Annual Fund, the School Nutrition Foundation, and #GivingTuesday.
