Funded by the Walmart Foundation, the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom (the Partners) came together in 2010 in response to their shared passion for childhood nutrition and its potential for improving educational outcomes and child health. The Partners is a consortium of national education and nutrition organizations including the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Foundation, The NEA Foundation, and the School Nutrition Foundation (SNF). The Partners provide technical assistance and support to school districts to implement the Breakfast in the Classroom programs.

The mission of the Partners is to increase breakfast consumption among schoolchildren and spark the academic and nutritional gains associated with the morning meal through the implementation of Breakfast in the Classroom programs.

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) is the leading national nonprofit organization working to improve public policies and public-private partnerships to eradicate hunger and under-nutrition in the United States. FRAC works with hundreds of national, state and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies,corporations and labor organizations to address hunger, food insecurity, and their root cause, poverty.

FRAC pursues a comprehensive national, state and local strategy by:

  • Conducting research to document the extent of hunger, its impact, and effective solutions;
  • Seeking improved federal, state and local public policies that will reduce hunger and under-nutrition;
  • Monitoring the implementation of laws and serves as a watchdog of programs;
  • Providing coordination, training, technical assistance and support on nutrition and anti-poverty issues to a nationwide network of advocates, service providers, food banks, program administrators and participants, and policymakers; and
  • Conducting public information campaigns to help promote changes in attitude and policies.

The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Foundation, founded in 1982, is operated as the tax-exempt, charitable arm of the National Association of Elementary School Principals—a professional association serving more than 25,000 administrators and other educators in the U.S. and overseas since 1921.

The Association believes that the progress and well-being of the individual child must be at the forefront of all elementary and middle-school planning and operations.

As the representative of principals who serve 33 million children in grades pre-kindergarten through 8, the Association seeks to:

  • Serve as an advocate for children and youth by ensuring them access to an excellent education;
  • Sustain and promote high professional standards and leadership among principals;
  • Heighten public awareness of elementary and middle school education as the foundation for all future academic achievement;
  • Serve as a national representative for elementary and middle school education to Congress, the Executive Branch, state and federal agencies, the news media, researchers, educators, and other education and child advocacy groups;
  • Serve as an advocate for the professional tenets and priorities of elementary and middle school principals; and
  • Ensure that education continues to be recognized as a matter of national priority.

The NEA Foundation is a public charity founded by educators for educators to improve public education for all students. Since 1969, the Foundation has served as a laboratory of learning, offering funding and other resources to public school educators, their schools, and districts to solve complex teaching and learning challenges.

Our mission is to provide students with the excellent public education they deserve. We accomplish this through grants to improve classroom instruction, by supporting educators’ professional growth, and by collaborating with groups, including unions, who share our goals.

We offer a broad range of resources, including support for Breakfast in the Classroom and the following highlights:

  • Our grants to educators (both learning and leadership and student success grants) support instructional practice and professional development across all subject areas and grade levels.
  • Our prestigious awards for teaching excellence recognize the extraordinary in public education.
  • Our global learning fellowship broadens educators’ and students’ perspectives. We lead an annual, cohort-based professional development program to provide educators with a blend of online, peer, and field-based learning opportunities to prepare their students for global citizenship.
  • Our STEM grants for school districts increase access to and improve quality STEM education in under-served communities.

The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) is the charitable arm of the School Nutrition Association, with an independent board of directors made up of school nutrition directors and industry partners.
