First, FRAC’s ‘Breakfast Matters’ series continues on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 3 p.m. ET, with “Principal Champions for Breakfast After the Bell in Secondary Schools.” Having a principal champion on board to advocate for your alternative breakfast model is a key best practice we share with school nutrition directors and managers seeking to implement breakfast-in-the-classroom. During this one-hour webinar, we’ll hear highlights from FRAC and the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ joint report, discussing what it takes to gain support for, plan, and launch an alternative breakfast model. The joint report captures the experiences of over 100 secondary school principals, and we know you’ll find it an invaluable tool in pursuing BIC in your schools.

School Nutrition Association
On Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. ET, the School Nutrition Association will present “Breakfast in the Classroom Webinar Series: Serving Up the Best Data: Understanding Current Research and Evaluating Your Own Program” as part of its ongoing Webinar Wednesday series. SNA will present a broad body of research that exists around breakfast consumption, and two specific research studies examining breakfast-in-the-classroom, specifically; we’ll examine benefits beyond increased participation such as academic performance, decreased tardiness, improved behavior and attendance,a and a reduction in visits to the nurse’s office. Presenters include Sarah Murphy (SNF), Liz Campbell (Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom), Lorrene Ritchie (University of California Nutrition Policy Institute), and Kathy Krey (Texas Hunger Initiative, Baylor College).
And while it isn’t breakfast-in-the-classroom-specific, we’re also going to recommend you save the date for another SNA Webinar Wednesday presentation, “Media 101: Best Ways to Work with the Media”. On Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at 2 p.m. ET, you’ll hear from SNA’s Director of Media Relations, Diane Pratt-Heavner, as well as the President of CJ Public Relations, Elizabeth Cowles Johnston, as they impart strategies to help you manage media requests to positively promote your program. Breakfast-in-the-classroom presents many media opportunities throughout the year, from implementation kick-off parties to National School Breakfast Week to Veteran’s Day breakfast celebrations, and you’ll learn how to prepare for interviews and effectively deliver key messages to promote your programming—breakfast or otherwise!
