Readers, I am so excited that I can barely contain myself! This post is brought to you LIVE from Washington, D.C. where I am going to attend the School Nutrition Foundation’s Legislative Action Conference (March 6-9). I haven’t been to D.C. since my 8th grade class trip plus I get to visit with no fewer than three great friends while I’m on the East Coast plus I get to soak up all the geniosity of school nutrition pros! My adrenaline level–and my use of exclamation marks–is dangerously high right now! And did I mention that I was a political science major in my undergrad? My inner political nerd is SHRIEKING with excitement!

Ok, I’m taking a breath.

The Legislative Action Conference will feature three full days of school nutrition experts and political insight brought together in one place to “shape and define national policy relating to school nutrition”. This is the 39th annual LAC, a conference of “learning and lobbying” and this year’s keynote speaker is journalist/political analyst Amy Holmes.

The LAC coincides with National School Breakfast Week (March 7-11), a program launched in 1989 to raise awareness about the availability of the School Breakfast Program (SBP) to all children. Click through to find more information about National School Breakfast Week as well as Tools, Menus, and Contests to help increase awareness of, and participation in, school breakfast programs. This year’s theme is “School Breakfast Detectives” and the tagline is “The Search for Super Energy”. As a kid I wanted to be a detective when I grew up (as an adult I still tear through detective novels) so I think the theme is really motivating and fun.

This is going to be a big learning week for me. My mantra for the trip is “I am a sponge!” I want to meet as many people as I can and soak up as much information as possible, and of course deliver it to you via this blog. If you are going to be at the conference and you see me please come up and introduce yourself. I may not know you yet, but I am dying to meet you!

It’s me, Christina! Please come & say hello. I’ll be the really short blonde with a computer, a smart phone and two cameras. So I’ll probably be a mess.
