We are excited to bring you four new webinars in February and March, focusing on some of the most important and popular topics in school nutrition and foodservice. Topic One: All Foods Sold in Schools, USDA’s “Smart Snacks in Schools” Proposal (February 20, 2013)

On Wednesday, February 20, 2013, we will be partnering with USDA’s Food and Nutrition Division (USDA FNS) to discuss the background and summary of the proposed rule to establish nutrition standards for all foods sold in school outside of the Child Nutrition Programs. We will also be providing participants with some guidance on how to comment on the proposal; time will be reserved for questions and answers, so bring your questions to the discussion! We anticipate that this will be a very popular webinar, and recommend you register and log on early!

Topic Two: Bring on Breakfast—News You can Use for the Success of Your Breakfast Program (February 27, 2013)

On Wednesday, February 27, 2013, we will be partnering with Kellogg’s to discuss strategies to help you to successfully increase your school nutrition program’s breakfast participation, and in turn capitalize on the nutritional and academic gains associated with a morning meal. You will hear from a panel of your peers who have implemented and are successfully running school breakfast programs in their districts.

  • Understand the benefits of breakfast, and how to share this information with food service staff, administrators, parents, and students
  • Promote your breakfast program, menuing items that students will eat

On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in partnership with Jennie-O, we will be discussing SNA’s STEPS Challenge, and explore ideas on how members can participate in STEPS and make the most of this exciting program. Attendees will hear STEPS success stories from fellow SNA members, and receive exercise and wellness tips from a health expert. This webinar is designed to motivate, inform, and inspire you to make healthy lifestyle changes today—we hope you will join us!

Topic Four: Partner up for PR Success with Chefs Move to Schools (March 20, 2013)

On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in partnership with the School Nutrition Association, we will present a webinar designed to help you learn more about Chefs Move to Schools. Chefs Move to Schools is a wonderful way to engage students, garner media attention for your program, and to help spread the word that school meals are healthy. We will hear from both chefs and nutrition directors that have successfully implemented a chef partnership in their district, and used it to support PR and marketing efforts. Regardless of your budget, resources, or experience, there are many ways for you to develop a chef/school partnership.

  • Gain an understanding of how to get started with Chefs Move to Schools
  • Hear success stories about chef and school partnerships
  • Learn tactics to use Chefs Move as a PR tool
