Our learning objectives for this next installment of Webinar Wednesday are:
- To learn the steps to follow that are necessary to bring a chef into a school.
- How to manage expectations between the director, food service staff, and the chef.
- Gain an understanding of how to effectively utilize a chef’s expertise to enhance a child nutrition program in: recipe/menu development, food education, culinary skills, and marketing.
- Learn how Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP60) and other resources can help provide a framework for reaching out to students and engaging them in the food they eat.
SNF is proud to partner once again with the National Dairy Council to present the Chefs in Schools Webinar. In this webinar, Kern Halls from Orange County Public Schools and Chef Tom French will discuss how to effectively use a chef to enhance your child nutrition program in the areas of recipe/menu development, food education, and culinary skills. We will also discuss how to successfully market your program to stakeholders (students, parents, school administrators, the community).
Kern will discuss how his school district identified chefs to work with, how the chef was educated about the parameters of school foodservice, and how the chef’s involvement was marketed to students; outcomes will also be explored and discussed.
Chef Tom French will share his interest in working with schools, how a chef can make contact with a school district, best practices for marketing a chef’s skill set to schools to achieve a meaningful experience for all involved, and what knowledge a chef should have before working with a school district.
