To date, the School Nutrition Foundation has awarded SNA members over $2 million in scholarships, which have helped provide opportunities for SN professionals to pursue higher education, career training, and attend professional conferences across the United States. SNF also offers opportunities for school districts to apply to win equipment grants, and the application period is still open for our Baxter Equipment for Education Grant—apply by Friday, May 30, 2014 to win!
Last month we brought you information on the importance of cafeteria equipment that we brought back from the Farm-to-Cafeteria conference in Austin, Texas. Updated equipment is a considerable barrier for many schools when it comes to implementing the requirements of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA); the Pew Charitable Trusts, in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is working on identifying strategies to overcome these barriers through their Kids’ Safe and Healthful Food Projects. One of the suggestions for school districts who require expensive new equipment, but struggle to find the funds, is to pursue grants and scholarships to overcome budget restrictions.
About Baxter Equipment
Baxter has been leading the design and manufacturing quality of foodservice and bakery equipment worldwide for more than fifty years. Innovative, but with a respect for tradition, Baxter equipment is designed to last, and to offer the flexibility needed to keep pace with the changing demands and tastes of the consumer.
About the Baxter Equipment for Education Grant
The Baxter Equipment for Education Grant will award equipment to a school district in need of improving its school meal kitchen facilities through a competitive grant process. Equipment received from this grant will consist of one (1) OV310 Mini-Rotating Rack Convection Oven (electric or gas) as well as a stand base, a two-year parts and labor warranty, delivery and installation by Hobart Services, and training and demonstrations with a sales representative. The OV310 Mini-Rotating Rack Convection Oven can bake, roast, and rethermalize, doing everything a full-size model can do but without taking up so much space. Whether you need to bake breads and pastries, or get an even roast on meats and casseroles, Baxter’s OV310 is perfect for a school foodservice setting where space is at a premium.
Baxter Manufacturing is committed to working closely with the grant winner to ensure the proper unit is supplied for the utilities available, and will arrange equipment delivery as well as ensure staff is properly trained so you can get the most out of your new piece of kitchen equipment. You can complete the online application now—hurry, you only have until Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:59 PM EDT! Applicants must be current SNA members, and the person responsible for directing the school nutrition program of the school district. Applications will be reviewed for need, and impact of new equipment on the school foodservice program.
