During our recent site visit to observe breakfast-in-the-classroom at Woodridge Elementary in DeSoto, Texas, the foodservice staff was kind enough to share some of their very best National School Breakfast Week snapshots. It’s clear from the photos–breakfast-in-the-classroom is a great way to start every school day!

A common myth about breakfast-in-the-classroom is that it can be chaotic, but the opposite is true! Whether you choose grab-n-go lines or direct delivery, breakfast-in-the-classroom provides structure for students and school staff.

Another common breakfast-in-the-classroom myth is that it’s messy and inconvenient for teachers. We work with the custodial staff to develop systems to prevent messes and facilitate fast, convenient clean-up.

Breakfast-in-the-classroom is great for all stakeholders! Students start their day with a nutritious school breakfast; administrators can lay the groundwork for fewer tardies and absences; teachers get a quieter start to the day, and the opportunity to model behavior as well as get to know their students in a different way; and school staff–including school nutrition professionals and custodians have the opportunity to interact in new ways and develop new relationships all while supporting student health.
