In a perfect world, every child would sit down at the dinner table on Thanksgiving Day and enjoy a bountiful meal, shared with friends and family. As we well know, we do not live in a perfect world; we live, rather, in a country where one in five children is experiencing food insecurity—that’s about sixteen million hungry children.

That’s something that has to change. It’s something that can change.

Every year we post our annual round-up of hunger resources, so that our readers can help (or get help) to combat hunger during the holiday season. In an excerpt from last year’s post, we wrote:

Food nourishes our bodies, but sharing a meal nourishes our hearts and souls. We know that for many children, school meals may be the most nutritious—or only—meal they eat during the day. That means holidays, weekends, and breaks can be times of hunger, rather than times of feasting and celebration.

We wish all of our readers a happy, healthy, hunger-free holiday season–as a matter of fact, we wish these things for you all year round. Whether you need a little extra help to make it through the holidays this year, or you are looking to give a little extra help to those in need, we have compiled our annual list of resources to help you locate food banks and pantries, and learn more about what you can do to fight hunger in America. We also encourage you to check with your local school district for backpack and/or holiday feeding programs.

Whether the helping hand you offer this season takes the form of a donation of money, a donation of time, or a commitment to become an anti-hunger advocate, we urge you to take the first step and get involved in the fight against childhood hunger in America.
