The breakfast-in-the-classroom implementation process continues! Orange County Public Schools—one of our five pilot program districts—has begun serving over 9,600 students a free morning breakfast in the classroom. The participating schools in OCPS are:

Elementary Schools

  • Little River Elementary
  • Millennia Elementary
  • Mollie Ray Elementary
  • Sadler Elementary
  • Tangelo Park Elementary
  • Three Points Elementary
  • Ventura Elementary
  • Engelwood Elementary

Middle Schools

  • Jackson Middle School
  • Liberty Middle School
  • Meadow Woods Middle School

OCPS will be hosting a Kick-Off Event on Thursday, April 28th. “Breakfast for Achievers” is an educational event for principals and administrative staff who are participating in the breakfast in the classroom program. National nutrition expert Dr. Keith Ayoob will be speaking about the benefits eating breakfast has for students, particularly as “brain food” and as a tool to fight childhood obesity; the topic of his talk is “The Importance of Breakfast and Nutrition Science for Brain Based Learning”. Dr. Ayoob is a pediatric nutritionist and associate clinical professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Where: Holiday Inn Orlando Airport (5750 T.G. Lee Blvd., Orlando, FL), International Ballroom

Sessions: Breakfast event 7 a.m.-11 a.m.; Lunch event 12 p.m. (noon)-4 p.m. (Note: Dr. Ayoob will be speaking at the breakfast event, at 8:30 a.m.)
