#1: School Nutrition Association’s NSBW Toolkit + Resources

The best place to get started is with SNA’s NSBW 2017 toolkit, which includes everything you’ll need to plan, promote, and execute a week of school breakfast celebrations.

  • Planning: Use the sample menus to organize special NSBW menus, and activity sheets to engage students;
  • Promotion: From talking points to press releases, the toolkit has all the resources you will need to communicate the importance of school breakfast to all stakeholders—including journalists;
  • Execute: Serve up school breakfast all week long, and share your own NSBW photos and stories as well as those from local, state, and national headlines using hashtags like #schoolbreakfastchallenge, #NSBW17, and #schoolbreakfast.

#2: FRAC “Breakfast Matters”: Archives

Our friends at the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) have several “Breakfast Matters” webinar recordings with marketing tips, best practices, advice on sourcing local foods, and more.

#3: NEA’s Breakfast-in-the-Classroom Toolkit

If you’re serving breakfast-in-the-classroom, you’ll want additional talking points handy for interviews and conversations with stakeholders. Download NEA’s breakfast-in-the-classroom toolkit for information on the benefits of various BIC models, statistics, and more.

#4: Take the School Breakfast Challenge

This year’s NSBW theme begs for an interactive challenge! We’ve seen some great ideas floating around social media already, such as a student #schoolbreakfast meme contest that challenges students to come up with the best breakfast-themed meme. Talk about a win-win—student engagement + great artwork for you to use!

#5: Advocate for Implementing (or Expanding) Breakfast-in-the-Classroom

Use the positive school breakfast messaging that comes with NSBW as a springboard to advocate for BIC in your school or district. Not only do the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom have great resources like our technical assistance videos available to you, we also have grant money available in ten new states! If you live in Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, or Utah—contact us to learn more!
