In case you missed it, the application period for the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom grant is officially open! If you live in Ohio, Oklahoma, Missouri, Utah, Texas, Idaho, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina, or Nebraska, we’re ready to help you implement breakfast-in-the-classroom in your school or district. With generous funding from the Walmart Foundation, we will distribute $7.5 million in grants to distribute 30,000 additional school breakfasts to students.

If you missed our recent Partners for BIC webinar about the grant opportunity, don’t worry—the archived version is now online, along with other OnDemand webinars from SNA. During the recording you’ll hear from members of the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom team—RD consultant Liz Campbell and SNF Program Manager Sarah Murphy—as well as school nutrition professionals who have received the grant, and implemented BIC in their school district. SNA members earn a CEU for this webinar!

Speaking of webinars, we’ve also got our eye on the upcoming Breakfast Matters webinar from our partners at FRAC. “Sourcing and Storing Local, Fresh Foods for School Breakfast” is on Tuesday, December 8 at 3 p.m. ET. Learn strategies to help you increase the use of fresh, local goods in your school breakfast program, from dairy to produce and more.

In other Partners for BIC news, we recently had the opportunity to visit two schools in the Austin Independent School District to observe breakfast in the classroom. The staff at J.J. “Jake” Pickle Elementary and Mendez Middle School welcomed us with open arms, and answered our many questions about why BIC is a priority in Austin ISD, and how schools are making the program not just work, but succeed.

Check back on the blog next week for an in-depth look at both visits, as well as our interviews with the cafeteria manager, district director, school principals—and even a few thoughts from students about what they like about BIC. Many thanks to everyone who made our trip to Austin so wonderful!
